Girls on the Run

We are planning our Spring season which begins the week of March 11. Registration for confirmed teams will open February 18 at 9:00 AM and is first-come, first-served. If you are interested in starting a team or volunteer coaching, please check out those sections in the menu for further information and reach out with questions.

Each team of 8-15 girls is reliant on 2-3 volunteer coaches. Coaches do not need to be runners! If you have the desire to make a difference and want to bring the program to your school or community, it starts with YOU! Fill out a new team application and someone will be in touch.

Financial Assistance

Girls on the Run offers financial assistance during registration based on annual household income; some sites are subsidized and pay a reduced-flat fee based on certain criteria. If you have special circumstances and you cannot afford the program fee, please reach out to the Council Director at gotrlongisland@gmail.com. We will never turn a girl away due to her family's inability to pay, because we truly believe that every girl can be empowered to do amazing things through our program.

PROGRAM POLICIES
  • We will NEVER turn a participant away due to financial constraints. We offer full and partial scholarships which are determined after completing the registration application. If there are any questions or issues, please do not hesitate to contact the Director at doreen.dunne@girlsontherun.org
  • Registration is open on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS unless otherwise noted. Registering your girl DOES NOT guarantee a spot on the team until you receive a confirmation email. If you did not get a spot on the team you will be added to a WAITLIST.
Once you are on the waitlist we will try our best to accommodate a second team, but this DOES NOT guarantee a spot in the program.
  • School site teams are open ONLY to girls from that school. You may NOT register your girl for a school team site if she is not a student of that school.
  • If there are spots remaining on a school team site before the start of the season and your child is not a student of that school, your child may be allowed to register for the team. A member of our staff will reach out to you if this opportunity is available.
  • Community teams are open to girls within the community and are not restricted to girls of a particular school.
  • There are NO program refunds once the season has already begun.
  • Attendance is important and required for the efficacy of the program. Therefore, girls must be able to attend practices in their entirety for the duration of the season. This means signing up for one day each week or coming late/leaving early is NOT acceptable. If you cannot make the commitment, then please do not sign up and leave space for someone who can.
  • Please contact your coaches with any questions about the team arrival, dismissal, or any other site related concerns.

COVID-19 Information

Information found here.

True

My girl isn't a big runner; is this program for her? OR My girl is already a skilled runner. Is this program for her?

Yes! We are much more than a running program, and every participant can benefit from the experience of building confidence through accomplishment while participating in our rich, curriculum-based, age-appropriate, interactive lessons. Expect lots of games, talking, laughing and processing in addition to running at each practice. And know that when we say run, we mean run, walk, skip, roll or push, just as long as you are moving foward!

What does the program fee include?

Your program registration fee includes all lesson materials, including GOTR curriculum, Journal, activity sheets, a GOTR t-shirt, registration for the end-of-season 5K, and a finisher medal.

We can't afford the program registration fee, but our child would love to participate. How does the scholarship program work?

Don't let cost stop you from participating! We are committed to making Girls on the Run accessible to all who want to particpate! Thanks to generous donors and community supporters, program scholarships are available to any family who needs it, and we can also provide appropriate running shoes and attire if necessary. The online registration form will walk you through a few questions to find the fee that is right for your family based on a sliding scale.

Do girls need to attend both days each week in order to register?

Yes! Since most of our teams fill up quickly, if your girl will be unable to attend all the sessions, please save room for a girl who can, and consider joining us in a future season when she can enjoy the entire program.

Is there a way for me to sponsor a participant for a season?

Yes! As a mission-driven 501(c)3, Girls on the Run relies on generous donors in order to provide more than $60,000 in program scholarships annually for families in need. Click here to sponsor a participant this season.
